Get Relief From Your Sinus Headaches

admin 28 February, 2023

Frustrated young man suffering from sinus pressureSinus headaches are frequently confused with other types of persistent headaches, such as migraines or tension headaches. Finding the right treatment can be a long process. Medications for other types of headaches will not be effective at treating your sinus condition.

What is a Sinus Headache?

The air-filled cavities inside your forehead, cheekbones, and behind the bridge of your nose are known as sinuses. When they become inflamed, usually as a result of an allergic reaction or an infection, they enlarge, produce more mucus, and the drainage channels might become clogged.

You often feel pressure around your eyes, cheekbones, and forehead which often results in headaches. The condition can become severe when your sinuses are blocked. Fever and infection are common side effects of blocked sinuses.

At DelRey MD, our specialists will perform a physical exam to determine if your sinuses are blocked. A CT scan may also be required, but Del Rey MD has an in-house unit for your convenience. Zero trips to another facility are necessary to diagnose your sinus condition.

Treating Sinus Headaches

Treatment typically depends on the type and severity of your sinus headaches. Antibiotics, antihistamines, and decongestants may be prescribed for a brief period of time. Inhaled nasal decongestants are another treatment option but limit the product’s use to three days. Extended use of inhaled decongestants can cause symptoms to worsen.

Pain medications may also be prescribed or corticosteroids to aid with nasal inflammation. If your sinus flare-ups are caused by an allergic reaction, you may require allergy therapy.

You may also be able to treat your symptoms with home remedies. Increasing your fluid intake, using a humidifier or saltwater nasal spray, can also help you feel better. However, always check with your doctor before using any home remedies.
