Is Nasal Obstruction Surgery Right For You?

admin 15 January, 2023

unhappy japanese woman with closed eyes rubbing red sore nose suffering from rhinitisWhen one or both nasal passages are blocked restricting airflow, it is referred to as nasal obstruction. It can be the result of nasal polyps, a deviated septum, or enlarged turbinates to name a few causes.

A visit to Del Rey MD in Southern California will provide you with an accurate diagnosis and the appropriate treatment.

What Does Nasal Obstruction Surgery Treat?

The ear, nose, and throat specialists at Del Rey MD in Marina Del Rey, Long Beach, Bakersfield, Los Angeles, and surrounding Southern California treat a variety of issues that can cause nasal obstructions.

A deviated septum results in one nasal cavity being smaller than the other, impeding your breathing. When your septum is off-center, many individuals find themselves breathing through their mouths. It can disrupt sleep patterns and leave you with an uncomfortably dry mouth.

Nasal polyps are another reason to consider nasal obstruction surgery. Polyps are soft growths on the sinuses or nasal cavities, often causing chronic inflammation. While smaller polyps may not result in nasal blockages, larger ones can interfere with breathing and even your sense of smell.

Enlarged adenoids can also be successfully treated with nasal obstruction surgery at one of our Southern California Del Rey MD offices.

Are There Different Types of Nasal Obstruction Surgery?

At Del Rey MD, our specialists perform several types of nasal obstruction surgery. A septoplasty procedure will straighten a deviated septum. The procedure is performed in-office and requires little downtime, typically around three to four days.

Image-guided endoscopic surgery restores drainage and ventilation using an endoscope. Turbinate reduction (turbinectomy or turbinoplasty) is performed when clients need to make their turbinates smaller.

Functional rhinoplasty (nasal valve surgery) is an option when surgery is required to repair or reconstruct your nose to improve airflow. Del Rey MD also performs VivAer procedures to improve airflow.
